July 2023 Nurse of the Month – Rhoda

Jul 31, 2023

Our team at WE Solutions are nursing recruitment experts, who believe a career in nursing is rewarding. So, we want to show our gratitude for the remarkable nurses who work with us. As a small token of our appreciation, we nominate an incredible nurse each month to showcase their amazing work and share their story.

We hope you find Rhoda’s story as uplifting and inspiring as her patients and colleagues and we’re delighted to have had the chance to work with her and support her in her move to the UK.

RHODA’S STORY

Rhoda was a young girl in school when a personal experience led her to realise she wanted to become a nurse. She answered her calling and studied nursing while living in Africa.

When did you realise that a career in nursing was right for you? Was there a  particular moment of inspiration in your life?

Yes, my little brother was very ill, so I stayed with him while he was in hospital until he recovered. My parents had to work, so I watched the nurses care for my brother, and I was inspired by the care they gave him.

What was your journey like in securing a role through WE Solutions?

WESolutions’ process was so fast, and they helped to make my journey very smooth. They answered all the questions that I had, helped me find a good job and made relocating easier for me. I was in the UK in the shortest time possible.

What advice would you give to young people considering a career in nursing?

Nursing is a game-changer and a rewarding career. Apart from being the source of your daily bread – how you earn a living –  you have the chance to appreciate life when you see how fragile it can sometimes be.

Do you have any standout memories or funny/interesting stories from your career as a  nurse?

I have plenty of touching memories. I nursed my grandmother in her final days, and she was over 110 years old! It was very satisfying to be there for her and a part of her life. She lived such an interesting, fulfilled life with family.

While working in maternity in Kenya and Namibia, many newborn babies have gone through my hands. I had the honour of caring for them in their first few days.  Life is a precious thing, which I see on a daily basis, so I do my job with passion.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?

If I could have a superpower, I would want to make sure that no one gets sick, or if they did, I would always be able to heal their sickness.
